katie Smal has indicated that this thread is about Croatia

Hello! Thank you for reading this!

Im 20 and am flying to Rijeka on the 31st Aug with a friend. We are planning on camping/youth hostelling and have a week to kill!

Firstly, we're thinking about getting the overnight bus to Dubrovnik and working our way back up to Rijeka along the coast before the flight home on the 7th Sept. Is this to adventurous?? If not, where would you recommend to visit?? Was thinking about a day trip by bus from Split to Brela beach as one definate stop. Also been thinking about Zadar, Omis and Krk. Any advice would be greatly appretiated!

The second option would be to travel around the Kvarner and Istria Areas instead of the big coastal trip?? Possibly to Pula, Plitvice national park?

Please help!

Katie

Hi,

I'd recommend going to the Plitvice Lakes. Its lovely there (although there are also loads of people). But its well worth the visit.

I don't think your overnight bus trip is too adventurous. The buses in Croatia are very good. Although do take some food and drink with you as they don't stop very often and when they do the whole bus goes to get food in the same place.
Split is a nice place to visit and if you have time I would recommend going to Trogir, which is a lovely old town (near Split). We randomly went into a place with a " room vacancy" sign and the couple that owned the place were absolutely lovely. They made us gorgeous dinners with home-made wine (no extra charge) and the man took us out on his fishing boat too. Very generous people!

Hi!!

Nice to see young people are traveling to Croatia.

Your plan is good, but Dubrovnik is maybe to far away. I mean it is beautiful old
town and tourists
love it, but usually people here especially young people don't go there, first it is
expensive town
and second it doesn't has good night life, so it depends what you are looking for.

Kvarner and Istria can offer you a lot of fun and nice places to see. If you want to
check out
islands my suggestion is to take Catamaran from Rijeka (Fast boat just for people
– ticket
depend from 40 to 50 kn). From Islands in Kvarner I wouldn't suggest Krk because it
is to urban, but
Pag, Cres and Losinj are really nice. On Pag, place Novalja you have one beach Zrce
with a bunch of
pubs. Lots of young people are going there to have fun and there is also a camp
site.

For Istria you should hit down to Pula and check out national park Briuni. Any place
in Istria is
nice

You shouldn't miss the Lakes of Plitvice, then National Park Krka, near Zadar.
Plitivce is a special
place.

I think in 10 days you have, maybe, you could avoid going to the south of Croatia
cause I think you
have so much to see here near Rijeka. All this destinations are from 2 to 4 hour away
from Rijeka by
bus or boat. In Rijeka we have hostel but I am not sure for the name.

If you still decide to hit down the coast you sure won't regret, just plan it good.
From the Split
to Rijeka by the coast it is one day of traveling, with the boat a day and half and
by the high way
it is around 4 hours but on Fridays, Sutrdays and Sundays is full of tourist and
maybe the old road
would be better choice. Plan the crowd when you are going to catch the flight.

Be prepare here is raining a lot but they said the rain should stop this week. South
of Croatia has
less rain then north.

I hope I helped you,

I wish you good fun,
Bye

Thank you guys! Your advice was much appretiated. Think we will just head to Split, maybe see Hvar from there and the Lakes on the way up north.

Thank you very much.

Take care.
