I picked up a travel guide to help me plan a trip to China. It says 'it is unadvisable' to travel around China in October because that is when most Chinese people are travelling (ie. 1-7 Oct Public Hols). It notes that it is impossible to get flights, trains, buses etc.
I was planning to go in October but I am living in Taiwan so my schedule is flexible (ie. will enter through Chengdu via train from HK on my return flight to Oz) so would I be best to postpone trip until November?
Has anyone experienced China travel in October? Love to hear your account.
If you make the tour reservations early enough, it shall not be a problem. I did much traveling during October.
If you have 3 or 4 weeks, besides the places you mentioned you also can visit Yangtze River areas, Luoyang or Tibet.
It's only bad for the 1st week of October, the rest of October will be fine. So you don't have to postpone your trip all the way till November.
I've always travelled during the national holiday weeks (don't have much choice) but with careful planning and etc you can still manage to enjoy the holiday. However of course if your timing is flexible then avoid it by all means.
