ashskett has indicated that this thread is about Australia

Hi, I'm backpacking to Aus around June 14th. I've never done any backpacking before and I'm going on my own so it's pretty dawnting.

I'll be staying for about 6 months, so I'll be getting a job and hopefully I'll get to see as much of Aus as possible.

Anyone going down about the same time or got similar ideas? I'd like to meet up with as many travellers as possible with similar ideas as me. I haven't booked a flight yet, but I have secured my working holiday Visa which starts on the first of next month.

Oh, I'm from the Birmingham area by the way, so if anyone is traveling past to a London airport, mebie you could give me a lift?!

Also, what's the weather like at this time of year? I know it's winter down there but it will still be hot and sunny...right?!

Cheers,

Ashley

Hi Ashley,

I'm a Sydney girl so if you need any questions answered just let me know.

As for winter weather, at the moment it can be up to 25C or down to 10C. it isn't perfect weather everyday, like today is overcast, but I've been outside all morning in a long sleeve tshirt and jeans. Basically, expect a bit of rain, but lots of beautiful sunny winter days. You wont be able to swim (without a wetsuit anyway) but you definately can spend whole days outside!

Have a great trip!

Hey! I leave on June 14th from Manchester to Sydney with a 3 hour stopover in Singapore, alone. So I arrive in Oz late on 15th June. If you haven't booked your flight yet, it might be more convenient for you to fly from Manchester, like me and it didnt cost me any more money. Heard the weather can be pretty crap at times (like April in UK). Also I haerd that if your travelling alone you have a pretty good chance of getting an upgrade to 1st class when u get to the airport (worth a try I think!)

Thanks for the replies!

loz: Thanks's for the heads-up on the weather, I was expecing it to be a bit warmer (dunno why), if I think of any questions I'll bring them to you :)

rach: Great to know someone has got the same ideas as me! How long you staying for? Also, where did you buy your flight ticket? To be honest, the only airports I've tried are Birmingham and London, Manchester would be great if I can find a cheap enough flight (it's all about the savings baby!). How much did you flight cost if you don't mind me asking? Soz for all the questions by the way ;)

Hi!
I'm planning to stay in Oz for a year, all things being well!
I bought my flight ticket from www.airlinenetwork.com, it cost £552.00 (inc. tax) return (you have to book a return date, but it is changeable)
My tickets were same price if I left from London or Manchester and I live in Sunny Stoke so Manchesters much better for me! June is the cheapest time to go (cuz its Oz winter). Airline tickets are much cheaper online aswell.
Good Luck and let me know how you get on! I'm travelling with Singapore Airlines by the way.

We're slowly but surely heading into Spring....(I was in Auckland NZ last month on work and it was warmer than Sydney would you believe!)..

Anyway I plan to go to the UK next year (work for a year or so)...and like you haven't really 'backpacked' per say....am willing to slum it for awhile, all in the name of experience!
