Two of us will be staying in Guatemala City after an easy two week stroll from Mexico City all the way to Guatemala City in November. We would need to get back to Mexico City to catch our plane from there. What would be the quickest and the least expensive ways of coming to Mexico City (by plane presumeably)? Cheers!
Traveling to Mexico City from Guatemala City by plane is not only the quickest mode of travel but the safest. Highway trips heading north at times have faced difficulties from criminals. Certainly this is a percentage thing but it is definitely a route that highway bandits regularly hit.
You can of course take a flight, but what would be the adventure in that? I took a bus out of TAPO station in Mexico City, traveled down to the border city of Tapachula, then took a Combi for about 6 hours past the border crossing, into San Marcos, and then eventually into Quetzaltenango (Xela). From there, you can easily catch a bus ride into Guatemala City.
