In light of the 'no hand luggage' situation - are you trusting your valuables like camaras into your backpack at the check-in carrier? Whats the chances of it getting damaged?

Hi ya,
No hand luggage is something i think everyone flying from the UK will just have to get used to. That and longer check-in times - it makes a mockery of the on-line check-in system to speed things up sinario the airlines were pushing.
But as for valuables, make sure they are insured (ask your insurance company to make sure they are), don't take anything you can't afford to lose. Remember cameras, clothes etc can be replaced but photo's etc can't so back them up before flying - post them home or upload them onto the net.

I'm not sure i'll be throwing my DSLR or laptop into the cargo hold, but everything else isn't a problem. So i'll be taking my Digi compact and a paper notebook instead - cheap and if they get lost i'm not bothered.

If you pack your expensive stuff in the middle of you pack surrounded by clothes it should give it some protection.

Happy travels
Jase

Restrictions have been relaxed so you can take one small piece of hand luggage into the cabin.
No liquids though - toothpaste, drinks, perfune, deoderant etc ...
