HELP!!! I'm going to Thailand in October with my girlfriend and we can only stay there for a couple of weeks due to work, so wwant to see Bangkok, Chang Mai, Koh Samui and Koh Tao. How much money do you think we'll need? im struggling to work it out, obviously we'll be staying in private rooms, we intend to get a couple of internal flights, and do some scuba diving on Koh Tao, but how much will day-to-day living be?? food, hotel, etc. I have no idea the total amount i may need! thoughts would be appreeciated
How much do you think you want to spend each day for hotels or food?
You can stay in cheap hotels for 400 baht or more expensive places for over 2000 baht per night. Same for your eating preferences, are you going to eat from the street vendors and chance food poisoning or eat in fancy expensive restaurants or somewhere in between?
Figure on 4000 baht per day for the two of you until you sort out what you have in your budget. How much your daily budget is will decide what hotels you stay at and the places you eat at.
If you stay on the beach front at Chaweng, Samui, be prepared to spend 1400 to 3000 baht per night for a room with air, and a pool. Try Ark bar or Coral Resort (Da Papa's).
Away from the bright lights and beaches you can get rooms for 400 to 600 baht. Cheapest rooms don't have air or hot water.
Food is cheap in general. If you eat Thai food you could eat noodles and street food for less than 100 baht a day, if you go for top seafood places 500 baht a head plus...you pays your money you takes your choice.
Transport is cheap. Internal flights are cheap except fto Samui on Bangkok Air (5000baht rtn).
If u start from Bangkok, then Chang Mai to the north and Koh Samui and Koh Tao to the south, that is a lot of flying and definitely not cheap, even if it is internal flights. However, since u have 2 weeks for this trip, u have more than enough time and may want to consider forgoing some comfort by taking overnight bus or train, which will save u a few nights' stay in hotels.
In Bangkok, head for khao San Road and u can find private room for only 230 baht per night. And hope u will like Khao San Road at night like I do. Street vendors are ok so long as u stay away from raw food like oyster and fruit with skin peeled. A bowl of noodle costs only 25 baht along the roadside. Do not believe ANYONE (including foreigners too) telling u that certain places of attractions are closed and trying to divert u to other places, u will ultimately end up in a super-expensive gem store. Just beware when people are too kind-hearted for no good reasons.
As a guideline for u, I did a 13-day backpack from Singapore to Ayutthaya and back, last year, for a total of only SGD$750 including accommodation, transportation, etc.
thanks so much to you for your help!!! the answers were really detailed and i appreciate it! just hope all goes well!!!
