Can anyone think of what Germans or Poles would want from the United States in the way of a gift? We would like to give something to our European hosts for their hospitality. It would have to be something we could pack and in our lugguge and wouln't spoil. Any suggestions? We will be coming in September. Thank you, Larry

Totally depends on your host's age/taste but almost everybody likes food so get them something typical from your region. I also remember as a kid when my parents had friends over from North America they had brought a giggling/singing Winnie the Pooh for me...I loved it as we didn't have such "advanced" toys in Germany.Don't know about nowadays of course ;).

hope this helps,

Steff

Baseball caps with a baseball team or NFL team logo on it. Obviously depending on age, but most males and females aged 12-30 would probably like them.
American candy for kids.
Otherwise as steff said regional food or drink is always good.

the american side of my family used to bring us little carved wooden figures (about the size of a finger) , they used to tell us these stories about where the figure came from , ie if it was an indian , hillbilly etc... it would always turn out to be a local hero in the area that they'd heard of through legend, it was nearly always made by the great great grandparent who could barely see anymore, and though we didn't always believe the stories later, at the time it had all our imaginations going crazy and we'd normally end up looking up folklore stories from different regions..... i think in general people of all ages like a good story,

hmmm good question. Germans love David Hasslehoff - so maybe a Hoff Poster :)

seriously though - "Baseball caps with a baseball team "

get them a Red Sox Cap - theres way to many Euros wearing NY Yankees Hats without actually knowing they Suck!

Could also depend on where ur from in the US - I typically bring back local Boston Beer - as proof that not all Ami Beer is terrible!

My flatmate does actually have a HUGE Hasselhoff poster...he has all his cd's and plays them often...he keeps telling me that's the best music ever made on planet earth...that might be ONE reason why I love travelling
