Hi there --

My sister and I are backpacking Oz in May 07, and we will be busy for sure! We want to try and see some of NZ, but it may be too much.

Regardless -- is it worth it to do a Cape Tribulation/Daintree day tour AND the Kuranda SkyRail, or would you suggest one or the other? Are they very similar?

Here is the itinerary we have roughed out (key words, roughed out) so far...let me know what you think!

Day 1 - Depart from Toronto
Day 3 - Arrive in Sydney, do some basic sight seeing and walking around (Jet Lag)
Day 4 - Possibilities include Opera House, Docks, Sydney Tower, Darling Harbour, Sydney Aquarium, Botanic Gardnes, Olympic Park, and the Bridge
Day 5 - Blue Mountains day trip, possible Grand Canyon Walk? then depart for Byron Bay in the evening/overnight
Day 6 - Byron Bay to hike and visit the main Beach
Day 7 - Day tour to Nimbin
Day 8 - Depart for Southport to visit my other sister :)
Day 9, 10 - Visit sister and visit Surfer's Paradise
Day 11 - Depart for Brisbane in the evening
Day 12 - Australia Zoo
Day 13 - Other Brisbane activities...woolshed? Koala Sanc?
Day 14 - Finish our Brisbane touring, depart for AIRLIE BEACH in the evening
Day 15 - Either start a 1 or 3 day sailing tour through the Whitsundays
Day 18 (if its a three day trip) - Depart for CAIRNS
Day 19 - Cape Tribulation Tour
Day 20 - G.B.R. Day Tour
Day 21 - Kuranda by SkyRail

...we then want to see Alice Spring's, Ayers Rock, and Perth...and POSSIBLY NZ! Oy!

Let me know what you all think please!

hey, sounds pretty rushed, but thats alright. I would take the full 3 day tour of the whitsundays. I also enjoyed Fraser Island a lot. I would hang out in Brisbane less...
You should check out what I did back in June. I travelled from Brisbane to Cairns.

You can also read about my trip to Central Australia. Might be interesting as well.

Hi there,
You don't say how much extra time (if any) you have to do Uluru etc, or New Zealand. I wouldn't try to squeeze NZ in if it's only for a couple of days. Better to save up and go back someday - you'll be glad you did!

Is it TOO rushed though? I know Aussie life is laid back, adn i know we can't see everything -- but it doesn't seem too too bad to me...

Any other tips?

:)

For Uluru, etc, we will probably spend as much time as we need...realistically, that will probably be until the end of our trip (Alice springs, ayers rock, then perth, then sydney and home.)

back to the Daintree/Kuranda topic -- would it be worth it to do both? :)

Personally I dont think there is alot to do in Kuranda as it is a very small and caters just for the tourists selling really tacky souverniers. However from there you can visit the barron falls which is closeby, see the butterfly park, and the skyrail gives you a great view of some rainforrest which is very close to Cairns aswell...if your going to do it then I suggest doing the skyrail one way and the kuranda train the other way as you will get to see alot more. Cape Trib and the daintree is very very different to Kuranda and I would suggest doing that aswell. You can do the Kuranda trip in 1 day, even less if you want as they have trains and skyrails running all day and you can pretty much leave whenever you want. I visited Port douglas for 2 nights and from there went up to Mossman gorge, daintree and cape trib in plenty of time...you do get a bit sick of looking at trees and nature if you spend any longer...trust me....anyway have fun
