Hi guys.

I'll be making a trip to the Philippines in December and I'd like to know what is the exchange rate? I am going to convert Malaysian Ringgits to Pesos.

Besides that do they accept all sorts of ATM cards and also credit cards?

Hopefully you guys can help me out with these questions that I have in mind. Thanks in advance!

(:

Hi Kyles,

For exchange rates, check out http://www.xe.com/ucc/

Hien, thanks for the recommendation of that site. The exchange rates that are stated in that site are correct right?

You can use that as a reference. In the end, it is the banks or money changers that decide the final rate. They should not differ much though.

These are mid-market rates so the only question is for how much more they will sell it to you or how much less you will receive when selling.

As a basic rule the more rural the area or the less opportunities there are the less you receive.

I was in the Philippines a couple months ago. I changed some money over at the airport, the rate I got was not too much different than what was in the Wall Street Journal.

When I needed to change some more money over again, a week late, and the banks were closed for Sunday and a Monday holiday, I went to the Casino and they changed some money for me with a decent rate.

Remember the going rate today may not be the same rate in December. Rates fluctuate, but the P.I. seemed to be around 50 + Pesos to the U.S. dollar for a long time. For ringgits you can do some research in your library or on the net and see how the stable your money has been against the peso.

I have no real complaints about money changing in the P.I. or Thailand, what I don't like is the rates you get for changing money over in Hong Kong. I find the Philippines and Thailand rates pretty close to the published rates. But, I didn't find Hong Kong as close to the published rates as I would like!
