Hi All,
I am new to the Travellerspoint. I am currently in the market for walking shoes for my trip to Western Europe in March. I am going to Paris, Amsterdam, Copenhagen and Prague for 12 days total. Last time I went to Europe (Budapest, Vienna, Prague, Munich, Berlin) I wore regular sneakers and got wicked bad blisters. I would like to buy a pair fairly soon so that I can break them in. Anyway, I have a desk job and flat feet, so I am not really accustomed to walking much. I am looking for shoes that have good arch support and traction, but are also black and don't necessarily look like a sneaker. I know this is a challenging task.

Anyway, the question I pose to you (girls) is: what shoe should I get? I am not much of a sneaker person to begin with, so I don't really know how to buy them and what to look for. I know that we will be doing ALOT of walking. It is a group tour thing, with a busy schedule and lots of transporting.

I went to the mall the other day and tried on the Keen Blvd Bronx shoe and although they really were not the style I was looking for, they felt extremely comfortable. They also make my feet look smaller when I had my pant leg down. Has anyone tried this shoe? If so, did you like it, how comfortable was it? The clerk at the store said he had about 9 different styles of Keens and he loves them. If you haven't had experience with Keen, could you suggest any other types for me to look at and try on? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry this is so long, but I wanted to make sure you had the info you need to make an appropriate reply. Any questions, please ask.

Thanks,
Clover

I am not a woman but I have found Merrells to do the trick. They usually last pretty long, have good support, and have a decent look in my opinion. Best wishes!

Thank you lost again for suggesting Merrell to me. I have done a lot of reading about Merrells and Keens. I finally ordered one of each. I ordered the Keen Bronx and the Merrell Spire Emme. I thought I would wear the Keens during the day when we have all those walking tours and cathedral/museums to check out. I ordered the Merrells for at night when we go out dancing/sightseeing. I plan on going to the Moulin Rouge, so I wanted something a little dresier and the Merrells look like they will do the trick! Also the reviews on both shoes were all excellent. I should be getting the shoes in the mail by the end of this week/beginning of next.

Thank you again for the suggestions!

I bought a pair of Mephisto All-Rounders awhile back and swear by them. I used to get blisters for the first few days of a trip - no matter how well worn-in my walking shoes were. I only had a week to wear in these ones before I left, but they were perfect - not a single blister. Plus they come in about 30 different colours, which is a big bonus!
