I never stay in 3 star hotels or above unless it is free or heavily discounted. You can find a "no star" hotel that has air conditioning, private toilet, security box for valuables, TV, hot water and daily maid clean up from around 1100 pesos to 1600 pesos.

Of course there are lower priced hotels, probably with fan only, that are cheaper and you can certainly find hotels that will cost closer to $100 per night too.

What price are you looking for? I usually stay in the Ermita area of Manila, not far from the U.S. Embassy. Smaller towns will have better breaks on hotel prices.

In the last year prices have risen quite a bit (to me anyway!) The same 900 peso hotel I used last year was 1300 pesos 2 months ago.

There have been several messages on this site concerning hotels in the P.I. and Puerto Gallera-Boracay within the last 8 months or so.

Albert answered most of your questions. I will talk about getting from Manila to Puerto Galera. Simple if I remember right. Take take the bus from Lawton Terminal for Batangas. Get on the ferry for Mindoro, leaves 11:00, 11:30, 1:30. There are combination bus/ferry tickets from Manila travel agents. Not expensive. Figure about 5 hours from Manila to Mindoro.

Manila to Boracay is easy if you fly it. If you want the experience of Philippine ferries, it is more complicated. I would find a good travel agent and see what you can come up with. It would be worth your time to contact the Swagman group. They are experts on the P.I. Google 'swagman philippines'. E-mail them and get your prices for rooms and tours. Good Luck.
