The shortlist has been chosen.

Now we need you to vote for your favourite 12 photos!

ooh, good first prize that! *starts enumerating the lenses he could get for that money*
The quality of all the pictures is scarily high, though... Good luck everyone!

Well, I voted already...on my own picture of course.

But now a rather obvious question comes to mind:
Who is allowed to vote? I know you need to be a member, but if I ask 50 friends to vote on my picture (and join travellerspoint just for that issue), is'nt that a kind of false competition?

So, are only the members who joined before 18tg of aug allowed (the date that peter announced the photo competition?

cheers, Michael.

I suspect there's no restrictions in place whatsoever, but if abuse is detected (which is pretty trivial to do), that'd disqualify those votes. I'd like to think everyone here can be trusted not to stoop that low though. :)

Well, I'd like to think so as well, but if there are no restrictions, abuse will be the case in my opinion.
I won't ask friends and relatives to just join and vote for my pictures....to be honest, I already saw 12 pictures which I would pick instead of my own!

There aren't any such restrictions, apart from us being able to check the records. If a picture gets a suspicious amount of votes then we will check the users to see if there is any kind 'foul-play' going on. A large amount of 'new' users picking one photo would be highly suspicious.

And of course, everyone has to vote for 12 photos, so even if yours was the favourite, they will still end up having to choose other people's photos as well, which should dilute the effect significantly :)

In my opinion new users, and I only mean absolutely new users, shouldn´t vote. I know of some cases in other sites, of competitions where only one photograph is allowed and finally the first-time-poster personality of a double poster, got finalist and his pic published in a photo gallery...I´d not like to see these kind of things happening again here...should be sad, but this is only my opinion...
At least I´d ask the organization to double check the possibility of irregularities before making a veredict...

Hi Luis,

This is actually the main reason that you have to pick 12 photos. You might sign up and repick your one time and time again, but you'll have to also pick 11 others! That will significantly dilute the benefit you are getting. You can be sure that the ones that win will definitely have the voting checked!

Now, on to REALLY difficult matters. How am I supposed to only pick 12??? I have about 30 that I can't choose from :( Anyone else having this problem?

It was hard picking 50 out of the 3000 featured shots in the gallery. A lot of amazing work out there, and amazing sights around the world. I also had a lot of trouble with picking only landscape format shots. But overall, I had a great time doing it!! I'm also glad it's all going to such a great cause !! Good luck to the competitors !!

True, but of course it's possible when you vote for your own picture, that you choose 11 others that are in your opinion the worst....or better to say the least good. I mean, they are all good, but there are some that I think will not be chosen that often.
I hope the one of Antarctica (with the plane, sun etc) will be on that calendar...that's really a great photo.
