Quoting Sam I Am

I think the ones standing out by not being too 'standard' fared especially well.

Greetings from Frankfurt de Maine !! Congradulations to all the winners and well done to everyone who participated !! The results are nothing but spectacular !!

To answer the question about what makes a good picture. I was one of the people who looked through the initial 3000 pictures and I used a simple guideline a friend gave me when I first started studying photography and had to produce portfolios. "Trust your first instincts". If you have to study a photo to get a sense of what it's about, it's not good enough. As for the rest, following the rules of composition as I've written in the Travellerspoint photoguide helps. Beauty is very individual, but there are some universal norms. So I'm sure if you thought about it for a second, you'll realize what you see is beautiful. :):) Hope that helps.

Hien, is het possible to see the other 36 photos which were voted for as well?

I chose 6 of the 12 pictures including the winner, but still wondering why that plane on antarctica is not voted for really. Maybe it´s not the best technically speaking, but it sure is a special one.

Congratulations, Michael.

Well actually, it was more like 95 photos total to choose from.

You can still see the voting page

You could still place a vote even, though of course it would be meaningless now :)

Hi there folks!

Just got back from holiday so this is the first opportunity I've had to say a massive thank you to everyone who voted for my two pictures. When Peter told me that two of mine had made the top twelve and that one had come runner up I couldn't believe it. There were so many great pictures in the shortlist.

Luis Dafos' winning picture definitely deserves the top prize. It's fantastic. A shot that I'm sure all of us would love to have taken.

One of the big things for me is that there is going to be a picture of my tiny home island on a global calender. That's really cool.

So thanks again folks. Can't wait to see the finished product.

Peter and me just approved the proofs yesterday and I have to say this is one of the most beautiful calendars I've ever seen! Just finishing up a final page or two and it'll go on sale....
