I am trying to forward plan and want to book accomodation for when I arrive in Melbourne in Feb 07. Im travelling on my own and am a little scared about it. I want to stay somewhere that's cheap, clean and friendly and most importantly good for meeting people.

If anyone has any recommendations I would appreciate it.

Hey Kelly

I dunno if this will be much use to you but our travel advisor booked us into a hostel called "Cooee Hostel" I dont have a clue how well situated it is etc, but I trust his knowledge and judgement so maybe its somewhere you might consider.

I never stayed in a hostel in Melbourne but people I know stayed at the Nunnery on Nicolson Street. ( Apparently it's nice and small with a great atmosphere. And it is definitely in an excellent location, close to the city and famous Brunswick Street ;).

Our travel agent also booked us into Cooee on St. Kilda too (robbo when you stayin there?) for when we fly into Melbourne. She said that she had stayed there before and highly recommended it. Hope that helps! :)

I stayed in the Nunnery when I arrived into melbourne. Made some good friends there who where both travelling on and staying in Melbourne to work and live. Good place the Nunnery, full of atmosphere, clean enough. The free Friday bbq's and Sunday pancakes are fab plus they have free brekkie every morning. I stayed in a doem but from what I saw the double rooms are SO much nicer. Plus it is in a very cool area of town which I ended up living around!
