Hey All- Checked out a few of the other forums, and I wanted to find out if anyone had any recommendations on great places for cheap food/drinks as well as off the beaten path places to relax in Puerto Vallarta (8/25-8/31). I can see that PV has become quite the tourist trap but I’d just like to make sure I spend wisely when I go next week. Thanks for any feedback or recommendations.
FYI, I did manage to get a Passat for about $12/day through Alamo. If anyone needs the link, post and I’ll try to find it tonight, but I do need recommendations please.
Hello! Just went to PV last month, for about a week.
I went down to the main tourist/city/resort area, but stayed in Bucerias, just north (30-40 minute drive). I would suggest you check out this northern area, I went around to the following towns and there are some nice beaches, etc. everywhere:
Bucerias, a quiet, non-touristy town. Decent beach. not too much to do and not a main area to walk around.
Cruz de Huaxante: Really small, local sort of village. I was close to here (had a house rental). We would buy fish straight from the boats and grill it (YUM). typical mexican village though, but you can find some good restaurants, etc.
Further north, you hit:
Saulsilita: I THINK this is the name...anyways it is a bit further north, like another 30 min, but a really cute town. I loved it and would probably stay here if I went back to this area. It is a BIT touristy but a very LAID back touristy - like young young surfers who are very chill. It just has a nice vibe to it, and a cute "town" area where you can walk around, eat out, etc. A lot of activity.
Just north is san francisco: VERY quiet! there was a really nice and almost deserted beach... I think there is a big resort here but I never saw it. Like i said, quiet town, not many people.
And you can get 50 cent tacos anywhere
Let me know if you have other questions!
Good advice but México postings go to North American, not these Central or South American forums unless needing travel advice from Mexico to CA or SA.
