Seriously feeling the nerves now, going to oz in 5 weeks for 3 months on my own. Can't sleep at night due to the nerves and feel constantly sick. Not sure what's scaring me the most, the plane flight or the fact that my plans are purely alone at this stage. I hav just watched a few films tho that haven't helped, 'Snakes on a Plane' and 'Hostel'! It's mainly picking up on comments of other people tho, telling me to be careful or stories they know of people dying from crocodiles etc. If anyone feels the same please let me know or flying from Heathrow - Singapore - Cairns on 27th Sept!!! Need cheering up desperately! Cheers, Lou x

Don't bother worrying about it! I guarantee you after a few days in Oz, you'll be sat on a balcony, with some brand new friends, drinking an "New" and wondering what the heck you were so worried about in the first place!

As for the Croc, Stinger, Shark, Spider, Snake stories...

Remember, more people in the UK die from Bee stings than die from all of the above in Oz in a year!

check the site below

have fun...

:)I know how you feel. Im about to book my flight to Oz in the next week or so. Im planning to land end of October / beginning of November. I haven't really got a plan set up for when I get out there, think im just gonna stick to the east coast. if there's anyone out there who fancies joinin me.............

Hostel completely freaks me out as well. It's definitely made me a bit nervous with regards to travelling alone. But if you're travelling along the coast of Australia you should be right. There are lots of people and most of us are friendly.

I suppose I shouldn't mention the movie "Wolf Creek" to anyone. But a word of warning, don't trust strange men in the outback.

Cheers everyone, glad I'm not completely alone, I think the stress of organising everything is really getting to me, waiting for reality to sink in. Feel's like a prison sentence at the moment! Also scared bout the fact I don't really have many plans when I'm there! Wish I was going with someone now tho!!!:(
Good luck in everything you do and see you there for a drink maybe one can only hope!
Manda x

Hey Amanda

Don't worry you'll be grand . I went in 2000 with 4 other mates . And to tell you the truth i didn't enjoy my self more than when we all went out own ways there and i found myslef on my own.

I found that when on your own more people tend to come talk to you more than if your in a group. You make more friends and forces you to get out there and meet new people . In a group you get none of that . Plus Aussies are so laid back and friendly . Come to think of it everyone there is no matter where their from . Remember your not the only one in your situation there's loads n load people .

I had no better feeling than getting into Melbourne for the first time on my own . Exploring a whole new place n seeing it all for the first time . Falling asleep on a bus on the way home from nite out in Sydney to Bondi and getting woke up by the bus driver . I meet so many new and wonderful people . So much so that i got married to an Aussie back in Feb of this year who i meet there .

Its all about the adventure and all the new and exciting places and people you are going to see . I promise you after a few weeks there u'll be so wondering "What was i so worried about" .

Don't be afarid to talk to people n join in with all happening at the Hostels . Its the way you make more contacts .

Enjoy it all . Its a life time experince that you'll never forget and who knows you might even stay longer than you though .

All best

aka Ozeire :)
