thinking of going to oz on my own in january next year. i have always wanted to but like u lot im bricking it!!
its a daunting thought isnt it but hey u only live once i sppose!
Wont b watching en of them films lol
anybody goin out there then? gonna b there? xx
I'll be heading to the Oz for 2 months by myself. I'm actually kind of excited to go alone as I'm sure I'll meet all kinds of people. It won't be the first time I've gone on a trip alone but previous times I've done that were much closer to home and for shorter times, so it's a bit different. There is really nothing to worry about.
kimmialf: I'll be there as well in January 07', I'm kind of just starting to plan this thing. I've been looking at this Oz experience bus thing. It looks pretty good as far as coverage of the country and it's definitely a good a way to meet people. Anyone out there done "Oz experience"? worthwhile?
i am excited and well looking forward to it its just the fact that im afraid i wont meet people?
When in january u going and where? never heard of oz experience, i was gonna join oz intro their called they look good for the first week neway!
Was hoping to lok for work out there too.
I've decided to give up my job and just go for it in November. I'm going on my own and yes, definitely bricking it. But why not??
I'm flying out to Sydney in mid November with the intention of staying there for about 6 months and then doing the travelling part.
Really looking forward to it, but also nervous. Can't wait, should be a blast.
Looking forward to meeting loads of different people and seeing all that Oz has to offer.
speakin as an aussie there really isnt anything to be scared of down here. If your in Northern Queensland, Northern Territory and parts of western australia then yeh beaches will have sting rays and rivers will have crocodiles so dont go in/near the water.
Once you get here im sure you will be so relaxed and enjoying yourself you wont be worrying at all. Just be smart.
Just a few beach tips for travellers. From experience with traveller s this is where you might need help.
Read the signs on beaches. Dont swim in the surf unless you can SWIM!!!!! Obvious but does need to be said. No matter how great a swimmer you are, swim between the flags on patrolled beaches, we have these things called rips that drag you way out to sea. Spend anytime at the beach an you will realise that lifeguards spend all their time saving tourists who jump into the water without reading the signs, knowning how to swim or where to swim which can of course end badly. If your in trouble PUT YOUR HAND IN THE AIR!!!! like when you are in school and even if you have drifted outside the flags (which is easy to do an therefore you must check often where you are), and a lifeguard will come to the rescue.
And finally be aware of the fact that if it hot, stay out of the sun(you dont need to be taken to the hospital for heat stroke and sunburn isnt fun), use a good sunscreen (you will get a tan without trying even if your covered up all day) and drink plenty of fluids.
Gatorade is heaps good if you feel dizzy/tired/burnt/weak/headache from heat exhaustion. Oh yeh an alcohol and heat exhaustion equals hospital.
Finally finally... ring 000 for police, fire and hospital.
Now with all that if anything goes wrong (other then drinkin a warm beer) you will have some idea of what the heck to do.
Hang out with some locals and you will be fine. Queenslanders seem to love........ tourists!!!
Hope this satisfies your mind in some way and doesnt freak you out more,
hey aussie girl, thanx for that! those things are gonna b very handy when i get there lol
Especially the number for the police!
Do reckon its easy to find work out there coz thats intially what i wannna do?
Whats it like the nightlife? is it safe for women?
Ange: I feel exactly the same as u but what the hell eh? u only live once! Its gonna b a blast i b coming in january so if ur still around perhaps u could gimme a bell and shpw me the ropes
There was an ad here in OZ years ago advertising the Northern Territory as a domestic winter holiday destination.
The ad was 'If you never, never go, you'll never never know'.
Come on down to the greatest country on this planet, cause you will have a ball, and the natives are friendly and helpful, and you won't get moved for bloody backpackers anyway.
Don't forget to dip your toes in the Indian Ocean!!!
P.S. It's the depths of winter here in Perth and you could have sunbathed on Scarborough Beach today. About 24 degrees (78 degrees F?) and gorgeous (Little Britain style).
Thank God for global warming.
I was quite shocked when i read all your messages...yeah im not goin aussie til about august and it aint all booked yet... but seriously guys chill out (im travellin alone and goin for a year too) just go for it, this is your chance to get out there, get away from it all and be who ever the hell you want to be! be excited, live it up!!! for some of us this will be the only chance we get to do this so just go for it!!! be confident!! from all the forums ive read you'll meet friends instantly!! my advice is just make the first move with people, break the ice and get talkin straight away...but not to any strange people of course!! hehe! im goin on the ozintro trip ( www.ozintro.com) for the first week and from what ive read the hostel is party central, your in dorm accomodation so as soon as you get to your room you'll be making friends, and if you're travelling alone don't be afraid to ask people if you can "tag along", they will SO not mind i can assure you -just go for it!!you spend the week in a group of about 12 people anyways so there you go -oppourtunity!!! hehe just ask the people in the group who you've clicked with the most if you all wanna go out travellin together! just grab any opportunities when you see them!! hehe! i hope you all have a great time and don't be nervous, the majority of people on here seem to be travelling alone, sydney is travellers haven! so dont be shy join in the part-ay!! If anyone is not doin the ozintro thing then id do some research and check out the best hostels and where most travellers hang out etc - you'l make friends in the hostels anyways so dont worry!! HAVE FUN GUYS!!!
well i just read everyones replies and have to say i felt exactly the same!!i flew in on my own after travelling india with mates, so it was pretty weird after having been with them for so long!!BUT i am now sat here pretending to work in sydney and its wicked!!i am staying in the rooftop hostel in glebe which is cool, met lots of nice people and its like home from home...just with more beaches, gorgeous people and amazing things!!!!u will settle in ok, after the initial few days of thinking oh shit! it will get better as the jet lag wears off!!my advice?go to a hostel, book in and go to the ktichen as this is where i have met all my friends so far!!have an awesome time remember, this is one of the few times u can look forward to something as big as this so embrace it!!!
