Open to suggestions for Guadalajara, Mexico. My husband and I will be in Puerto Vallarta (for a wedding) and are spending an extra week in Mexico. We thought that it might be worthwhile taking a bus from PV to Guadalajara. For accommodations...any suggestions? (downtown or ?) We will have to head back to PV to catch the plane back...but can likely stay in Guadalajara for 5 days or so. Would really like to enjoy this city!
Appreciate any advice you may have,
guadalajara is a huge city, so i would recommend staying in the city centre, there are plenty of affordable hotels (30-50 USD) per night and from there you can have access to the main attractions via metro, bus or taxi which is not expensive at all... main attractions I would suggest tlaquepaque, real mexican atmosphere, centro historico (historical center).. there are many suburbs like zapopan, tonala is a must, tlaquepaque. very pintoresque town and very nice to see... also very close is Tequila, this little town offer almost any kind of tequila, at incredible prices... Weather is great, I am sure you will love the city... in Puerto Vallarta try to look for a beach called "punta de mita" about 30 mins from Vallarta's centre...totally the best beach around, not crowded at all, very very nice... hope you enjoy it and please post some comments when u come back... hope it was helpful
Thanks for your suggestions. I will certainly start to look for accommodations in the city center as this seems the most logical location to "spread" out and explore the city from.
Will also seek out Punta de Mita.
Thanks and will post how things went later,
i have been to GDL 3 times now and its true that its a huge city.
More authentic than PV as it is a tourist resort.
i wanted to add to the last post. THE TEQUILA EXPRESS - take a train from GDL to tequila it includes info on how teq was made back in the day and now. It also includes a BIG buffet lunch and even dancing!!! all for around 70$ CAD. A must see.
If your a shopper you will LOVEEEE GDL hugeee malls one about every 10 min. MAKE SURE YOU GO!!!
If you'd like to see a movie in one of the malls you can choose between regular or VIP!!!
regular is very nice (8$!!!) and VIP (18$) includes leather reclining chairs, and ppl serve you food from a menu IM NOT JOKING!
If going out to dinner, club, or everyday most of the mexicans in gdl tend to dress very well and conserv!! so have a nice couple of outfits
hoped this helped if i think of anything else i'll let you know.
You have to go to one of the local Salsa clubs!
During my time there we used to go to La Mutualista every thursday(it's Downtown, on the corner of 8 de Julio). The atmosphere is brilliant!! They have a live Cuban band playing, it's a mixture of local people and foreigners (guaranteed you'll bump into someone from out of town!). Cheap alcohol and brilliant salsa dancing! I loved it and miss it loads.
