Hi,

In september I will be in Buenos Aires for several days.
Anyone did a day trip to Colonia, Uruguay from BA?
I know Buquebus (on the internet) has the highspeed hydrofoils en normal boats...is a reservation advisable?

Thanks, Michael.

Hi,
I dont think you need a reservation, the Ferry is quiet big.
You could also take the Ferry to Montevideo, and from there take a bus to Colonia.

No needs to make reservations whatsoever. If you plan to go to Montevideo, going by bus is much cheaper than taking the ferry from BsAs.

have fun down there,
Niels

I did BsAs to Montevideo by ferry and it is a quick journey, around 4 hours, when compared with an overland bus from BsAs to Montevideo.

The ferry was pretty full when I was on. I'm not sure if it's like this every day though, so I would advise to get down to the Buqebus terminal early in the morning to make sure you get a seat, otherwise you can go to the Buqebus office downtown (Avenida Cordoba from memory) and book the day before you leave.

Same I would think applies for Colonia as well.

I did the Buquebus ferry from BA to Colonia; really enjoyed it. I don't think I made a reservation too far out in advance, but I believe I went maybe one day in advance to the Buquebus office; and if numero1's memory is correct, then it is on Avenida Cordoba. Sounds right; it was right in the center of the city.

I did a day trip from BA to Colonia last June. This made a great day trip and I really enjoyed Colonia and getting out of BA for a day. FYI, Buquebus has a website where you can check schedules and buy tickets (which I did without a problem). However, the ferry did not seem too crowded when I went and I don't think you will have a problem buying tickets the day before or even same day.

Bobbyjoe, did you have to pick up your tickets somewhere after buying them on the internet? Or did you get an online voucher?
