You need a sponsor to get a visa I believe...i.e. you need to get a job first, and then the company has to be willing to sponsor the visa. (which a lot of companies aren't since it can be expensive for them) The company has to be able to prove why a foreign citizen is uniquely qualified (over an American) to do the job.

My knowledge is only based off office-type jobs (i.e. law firms, investment companies, etc.) - I am not sure if it is different for other fields of work.

speaking from the perspective of the midwest, where all the blue collar jobs are, I can tell you, yes, companies are always willing to hire skilled laborers. My brother works with a company that hires heavy equipment drivers every year. They may also be looking for other work. if you give me more of your details, I could ring my brother and see what he can do to help -- or perhaps my brother-in-law might even hire you to help on the dairy.

You need to find a Sponsor. Talk to them and see if they want to hire you. Then the process is quite long. You need to apply J1 Visa. If you go to the American Embassy in your country, they will give you all the information you need.

Sesiri
