Jenny,
I have always travelled VN on the bus, but that is not feasible going from HAN to SR. The only option that makes any sense is to fly Air Asia; HAN-BKK. All the other options are very pricey. Vietnam Airlines does this direct for $217 1 way. Air Asia flies this for around $50.

You can get from BKK to SR in one day overland for $10-40. You can do this on your own. The Khao San Road agents book this, but it is full of scams. Expensive in time, hassle and stress. Send me a PM if this option makes sense to you.

There are many nice GHs in SR for under $10/nite. Aspara Angkor GH, Bou Savy GH & Rosy GH all have fan & a/c rooms under $10/nite, food on the premises as well.

Another airline namely : PMT Air also flies the HAN-REP route. I cannot remember the fare but I think it's cheaper than VN. Check with your travel agents for the last updates of this airlines or in www.pmtair.com

Another option is do your calculation if you can fly from HAN to Vientiane (by VN or Lao Airlines-QV) and fly QV from VTE to REP. Otherwise, flying from HAN to BKK first (by Air Asia) and then overland to REP (as the previous poster mentioned) is another option.

Have more time and no rush, take a unification train from HAN to Saigon and then overland to Cambodia's Phnom Penh and bus, boat, or flight to REP.
