Look, if you are a frequent visitor to Thailand get hold of an unlocked mobile that works on 800/1800 mghz, buy a thai sim card which is very cheap and off you go. I call from Thailand to Hawaii for .10 USD per mim..cheaper than a phone card!

If you don't have one go to MBK
http://www.mbk-center.com/en/index.asp
and visit floor 3 ,4, or 5 for about 10,000 shops who will hook you up, sim car and all for under 50USD for a basic phone..........

woa, this is some scary stuff. I've never travelled alone before, and I'm flying to this airport in a few weeks- can't speak the language, look very young. I can sense I'm going to get ripped off here.

So I arrive- find my way to the airport shuttle bus service which will take me to the transport centre, from where I will find a bus which will take me to hopefully where I need to go...

Actually, it doesn't sound too bad. How much will these buses to the city cost??

Thanks.

Yo, slow down a bit and you'll get what you need from the forum...

Most people you'll meet as a visitor speak english and thailand is a VERY save country..........

Lets have a little more info on where you are headed and one who spends ALOT of time there, have VISA, Thai Driver Lic and speaks some Thai will help you... I haven't been to the new airport either but will do so real soon.

Where are you headed what time do you arrive etc. I promise that you'll arrived feeling lots better! I may even have a few travel tips for you! If you are looking at night life info lets do that via PM....

A good non commericial site is http://www.bangkokbob.net/
Don't rely on the forums as most a run by fools and a clickish group whom mostly do live in Thailand and spend all their time on line so that can't afford to go there. One board has a nut job that reads about 10 news papers a day and cut/post stuff...Idiot!

Well, hope to hear form you, when do you arrive?
Looking for to sharing my info on thailand with you....

Ok, I've flown through the new airport already - it's about 350 baht to Khao Sarn if you don't hit much traffic. The airport was rushed to completion and there is supposed to be a light rail link connecting it to the city and a better bus network but they say it'll be about a year until it's ready.

I've asked about buses and there are none direct to the khao sarn area now but you can get a minibus to the airport from there for 130 baht.

not sure that really helps but its the best I could find and I'm meeting someone at the airport there tomorrow.

Wow, only 350 Baht to Soi Khao San......that is big money for a Khao San roadite.....I bet the hotels have a mini van system...Try that web site about Khao San Road, just google it as I have no use for the place....All the smellie hippie chicks with braided arm pit hair slip over to Sukhumvit for the great "Happy Hours" like at the Cat House in Nana Plaza. What do they do there...eye sores, bloody eye sores!

You have to figure out where you want to stay in Bangkok. How much money you have for hostel or hotel rooms will determine what recommendations you get for specific lodging.

Really young travellers like to head for Khao San Road. I prefer to stay on Sukhumvit Road so I can take advantage of the Skytrain. Suk 11 Hostel is popular with backpackers, they have cheap dorm style lodging and private air-conditioned rooms. Google Suk 11, Bangkok for more info on that place.

I was at the airport 2 days before it opened. At the airport there will be an Airport Express bus that takes you into town, directly from the terminal, for 150 baht. This bus is supposed to be similar to the old "Airport Bus" that used to run out of Don Muang for 100 baht. These Express busses go to many areas of Bangkok, the old Airport Bus used to go to Khao San Road, I would expect the same service.

If you arrive during the day or early evening you can take the free shuttle bus to the Transportation Center. At the transportation center there are several choices of busses into town. I used the #552 bus, it took around an hour (5:30 to 6:30 PM) to get to the On Nut Skytrain stop (Lotus Tesco stop) the price was 35 baht. You could take the Skytrain to the Nana stop and walk from there to the Suk 11 Hostel. The Skytrain price is around 35 baht.

Once you are on Sukhumvit Road the taxi cabs will be cheaper from that point on, ONLY PAY THE METER PRICE in a taxi, it is cheaper than bargaining! From the transportation center there is a city bus that runs to the Victory Monument area, I think that price is also 35 baht.

If you get a taxi from outside the terminal you will pay a 50 baht sign up fee and from then on ONLY PAY THE METER PRICE!
