I know there are some criteria about the difference of being a budding memeber, full memeber, travel guru etc.

But I viewed some profiles and I noticed some strange differences. For example I noticed that someone who had more featured photos, more trips and more posts was budding member and someone with no featured photos, less trips and about the same posts was a budding member.
How does it work exactly, is time a criterium for example?

Michael

Postcount is a very misleading indicator, since only posts in the travel related forums (so definitely not the offtopic one) are taken into account for member status.
Beyond that, I don't think anyone is ever going to get an exact answer to "how it works"; we wouldn't want people to go and try to game the system. :) Don't ascribe too much importance to member status anyway; it's just a very rough general indicator of "this person has been contributing usefully to the site for a decent amount of time".

As Sander said, the post count doesn't really matter at all. Featured posts (both forums and blog entries) do weigh heavily, as do featured photos. Things like how many countries someone is a travel helper for also help! No one except Peter really knows the equation and I tried figuring it out once while looking at the calculation but my mind just couldn't, that's how complicated it is

It's also worth noting that Full Member status is never lost. This can result in situations like you described. However, the more likely scenario is that the one with more posts has a lot of them in Off Topic forum. Send me the usernames in a PM and I could probably tell you where the difference lies. Chances are if they are getting a lot of photos featured it won't be long before they are a full member.

I guess the difference must be the travelhelp part or the big amount of off topic posts then. But all those differences are actually kind of nice. Is the amount of countries you have visited also a criteria?

No points are given for the amount of countries you have been to. That's just too easy to lie about :)

Hien is correct... There are a limited number of Respected and Guru positions. (I may be wrong about the Respected part...) But again, it all goes by postings, ratings, photo uploads, blogs, etc. Start answering more questions and add some photos!! Take back your rightul place in TP society!! ;)
