Hello everyone at TP! I'm peter from the U.K and have been travelling for 6 weeks now. It has been the most enjoyable experience ever and i'm looking forward to the next 6 months of travelling around south-east asia. I'd be glad to hear any tips on what destinations to visit and where to stay and would be happy to advise anyone about the few places that i've visited. So far i've seen St. Petersburg and Moscow, Ulaan-Bataar in Mongolia, Beijing, Xian, and Chengdu in China. My blog is a little behind but i hope to catch up on that soon. I'm having a well deserved rest after walking up the beautiful, but exhausting, Mount Emei in Sichuan province! Cheers

Hi Peter,

and welcome to TP. Be sure to make use of the forums. You'll find invaluable information. I suggest posting in the Asia forum.

Enjoy SEA.

Michael.

Hi Peter!

Welcome to TP!!!

I have to say, the title of your thread definitely caught our eye! It is one of our favorite fun movies and watch it often.

I agree with Michael about posting your questions in the Asia forum. I'm sure you will gain more than enough information there to keep you busy traveling SEA for the full six month of your visit there. Enjoy the adventure!!

Welcome again and see you in the forums! ;)

Hello Peter,

Welcome to Travellerspoint!

I was going to ask the moderator of this forum, beerman, to move this thread to Asia when I saw the title. ;)

Whatever questions you have on south-east asia, just ask in the Asia forum. I'm sure you'll get a reply very soon.

Enjoy your trip!

Cheers,
Hien

Welcome to TP Peter!!

I'm not sure Hien has ever seen one of the best movies ever made....Kurt Russell doing his worst John Wayne impression...priceless.

Just out of curiosity, how tall is Mount Emai?

Hello to you all and thanks for your warm welcome. I've been looking throught the SEA forums and have picked up some useful bits of info. I'm off to Manila tomorrow and i'm looking into scuba diving courses. Will post in forum later. Beerman - "BTILC" is probably Kurt Russells best ever film, although Tango & Cash with Sly Stallone is also cheese but fun too! Mt Emei is 3099m, the last 100m or so at the very top is only accessible by a mono-rail train. I walked it in 10 hrs at a pretty good pace. According to the map the walk covers 34km but i think that is wrong and the true figure is less than that. I'd say more like 25km. It was a beautiful place to walk through the woods although view from top obscured by mist and clouds. Huashan near Xian offers far better views but is VERY dangerous! Almost vertical steps and the steps are less than 3 inches in depth at times so have to be very careful as sheer drops await the unfortunate! I climbed it at night with a group of really friendly Chinese students and reached East Peak in 6 hrs and in plenty of time to see sunrise. Must update blog and photo's, almost impossible to find internet cafe with cd drive though! Cheers :)
