I'm looking for some inspiration for a great New Years 2006/7 holiday. It's my favourite celebration of the year and I intend to get away from work & obligations and try something different.
What was your favourite NY's (or where would you like to go?) in Europe or somewhere close by?
I'm particularly interested in Eastern Europe, just to keep costs down, but if you have good stories or just ideas from anywhere else put them here too!
Big parties in larger cities are always good, but I'd quite like to hear about smaller places with bigger atmostpheres.
My best EU New Years so far was Bad Gastein in Austria, good party vibe with all the snowboarders and skiers and in a very quaint little town covered in snow, ice and fairy lights. I'm sure that can be easily topped though. London & Munich NY's were good but fairly generic.
Inspiration please! Or even tell me about your crap NY's holiday so I can avoid the same mistake!
One place best avoided during NY is Amsterdam; I rather liked Saas Fee in Switzerland.
If everything goes according to plan Romania and Bulgaria should join the European Union on January 1 2007. It may be a good time to visit one of these countries and I would expect the
atmosphere during new years eve to be quite special.
I don't know Romania but have been to Bulgaria a few years ago and really enjoyed it.
The Rodope mountains in the south of the country are great for nature lovers. The town of Plovdiv is also very nice (much better than Sofia).
Hogmonay in Edinburgh is a great laugh! Do it in fancy-dress cause that makes it even funnier!
I will vote for Andorra and it´s not because i live there. Every year i have friends coming over from Uk who did not know Andorra before i came here. Now every year there is a group of friends rolling down the mountain on the 31 st of dec. It´s quite cheap to get here and even cheaper to stay, drink and eat. The atmosphere is excellent.
Romania is fun! i was there in Brasov for one new years.
The big opne-air party in Berlin around Brandenburger Tor (Brandenburg Gate) is quite famous, although it is not much fun if you go there on your own without any friends.
