East of Eden, Marlis... Had to look it up myself just to be sure.

It doesn't always work to literally translate the German titles into English. A lot of the time they don't make sense and when I tried it I got people looking at me funny.

Fiction Films:

oh so many...
The Dark Crystal
The Straight Story
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
The Big Lebowski

Documentaries:

Fog of War (Errol Morris)
Stand van de Maan (Shape of the Moon, Leonard Retel Helmrich)
Stand van de Zon (Eye of the Day, Leonard Retel Helmrich)

It's a toss up between Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?

I vote for, 'Gandhi', directed by Richard Attenborough.

I am in awe of 'zoom's' contibution to the best film debate. I will quibble why 'Elephant Man & Mulhilland Dr. was left off David Lynch's films. I also would not put 'Heaven's Gate', directed by Michael Cimino on a best film list. I have tried to watch it twice and both times gave up. It was simply such a mess it was not worth my time. My 2 cents.
