not only that guidebook, also central america on a shoe string.. I'm leaving in december and saw somewhere that Lonely Planet release a new edition every second year. Both South and Central America on a shoestring came out spring/summer 2004. I neew the newest editions before i go! But does it really matter if the guide books are about two years old? Maybe it doesn't. MAybe I'm just a bit paranoid..

The footprints guide is meant to be much better.

I guess it really doesn't matter if the guidebook is two years old. The new one will probably be full of things investigated in 2005 already, so what's the use.
Only some hostels may have closed or open up, but in general things stay the same for years. Maps and highlights of the countries don't change in general. Although there is a new highlight in Peru: a lost inca city near Lima...don't know if it's already in the old one.
