My three friends and I are going inter-railing around Eastern Europe from the 31st August to the 18th September.
These are the places we have in mind to travel to:
Prague, Krakow, a day trip to Auschwitz, Zakopane, Budapest, Bratislava, and then back to Prague to fly home.
We were wondering if there is enough included in our travels to cover the 18 day trip. Can you suggest any other nearby places within this circuit? Bear in mind, we purchased a 190 euro rail card for these countries, and would like to get as much value out of it as possible.
Also, do you know if Zakopane is worth the 3 and a half hour journey from Krakow? Is Zakopane easily accessible, and if not, is there any other similar mountain resorts we could visit?
Finally, does it make more sense to travel from Krakow to Zakopane to Budapest to Bratislava, and then to Prague, or Krakow to Zakopane to Bratislava to Budapest, and then to Prague?
I'd really appeciate any light ye could throw on my questions.
Thanks so much!
Sounds like you have a lot of places for 18 days. If you feel like you need more you could always stop in Vienna either before or after Bratislava, as they are only about an hour apart. As for your route I would suggest trying to make some sort of a circle/loop out of it, ending at the city you're flying out of.
well I am in Krakow right now, travelling around.
Try not to plan too much before hand... talk to people in the backpackers and local people.
In my case, I will jump bratislava I go from krakow to budapest and Croatia... from a certain moment on all the sceneries seem to be the same in eartern europe
from what i recall the train connections between budapest and Prague go thru Bratislava - so ur better off Budapest - Bratislava - Prague
if your headed that way l would definately go to Ljblijana in Slovenia, much nicer than Zagreb or Bratislava
does anybody have avdvice regarding booking hostels. My friend booked them before he went, or would it be better to plan as you go?
any help would be great
It depends when you go, and where exactly. I'd say that advance booking in low season is really not necessary; in high season, touristy places with limited accommodation in the desired price range should be booked in advance.
We're going at the start of August so going to book the flights soon. There are 6 of us going for around 3 weeks.
This is our rough plans so far:
Fly into Berlin
Slovakia (Whats a good city to stay in?)
Austria (fly home)
Does anybody have any info on these cites? Will we be able to fit them all in and how long should we stay in them.
Cant wait to go!!!
