Hi folks! I'm beginning my 8 mth (+!) traveling trip in Bangkok in 2 weeks. After a few days there, I want to chill out on a beach for 10 days or so before starting my 'proper' travels. Can anyone can recommend a peaceful, picturesque beach where the weather will be good (this is a must-but only if it's possible!!) and where I can happily chill out alone and rid myself of the stresses of the past few years? I'm longing for my beach!!!!

The island of Ko Samet is a fantastic island only about 3-4 hours coach ride from Bangkok its a small island which isn't really that busy compared to the other Thai islands and is paradise. I wouldn't check-in at the weekend because all the business types from Bangkok have weekend breaks there (see even the locals go to the island its that nice!) and it gets pretty full but you can get cheap accomodation from about £6 a night.

well i hope you have fun.
:)

Heyyyyyy… it’s good to hear that you will come to visit our country. Well, there are many places that I would like to recommend, get start from
1. Koh Larn small island, only one hours buy ferry from Pattaya. Nice and calm. http://kohlarn.com
2. Koh Chang ( elephant island ) beautiful. http://www.koh-chang.com
3. Koh Pha-ngan even there is a full moon party, and it known as a party island. But believe me that you can still get relaxing here. The party mainly to the south of the island but you can you go to the west, north west and east. I recomment Haad Yao ( west ), Haad Salad ( north west ) and Aow Thong Nai Pan ( east , most beautiful ) http://www.phangan.info
4. Koh Nang-Yuan ( about 2 hours from Koh Pha-ngan ) Small island, beautiful. http://www.nangyuan.com
5. Mu Ko Similan Very very beautiful http://www.discoverythailand.com/Phang-Nga_Koh_Similan.asp

Well, that’s I would like to recommend but if you don’t like you can check out here http://www.thailand.com/travel/beach/beach.htm there are loads of choices for you ^.^
Have a nice trip in Thailand ... Sawasdee kha :D

Wow! Excellent info, thank you so much!! I'm getting very excited now!! One other question...what island will be the best weather? I understand there is still quite a lot of rain in Thailand in September and I want to avoid it as much as possible (I've had enough of the rain in London the last few weeks!!!).
Thanks again

Hi

I can recommend Koh Tao if you want to learn to dive and even if you dont its a great place to hang out or Koh Lanta which looks over towards Phi Phi but doesnt have thecrowds and is really laid back. It also means you can go on day trips over to phi phi don and phi phi lay.

Have fun on your travels - Im really jealous having got back from my travels 3 months ago and now really bogged down at work again.

Hi Claireh,

As I see in the rainfall average chart. Thai Bay coast would be less rainfall than Andaman coast. Koh Lanta is very beautiful but it rains a lot on September. Well, you can check out the chart from http://www.travelfish.org/thailand_weather.phpfor other part of Thailand.

Anyway, it just start raining in Bangkok this week but not too much, still ok. I think it should be fine in southern too ^.^
And if you would like to go shopping in Bangkok, do not hesitate to ask me where to go lol Have fun.

Bay :D

P.S. For Thai Bay coast, I recommend Koh Pha-ngan. Koh Tao would be nice if you're interested in diving but if you're not, should go ahead to Koh pha-ngan. And you can do a day-trip for snorkelling at Ang-tong Marine park ( soooooooo nice ). Koh Samui is ok, but too much people and too much building but it's more comfortable for transportation and shopping of course. Koh Nang Yuan is very small, far from everything but beautiful.

Be warned that you may not want to move after relaxing for 10 days in the islands! I spent 2 hectic months in the north of Thailand, Lao, Vietnam & Cambodia before I went to the Islands, it was a well deserved break I can tell you.
