Hi there, was hoping someone could recommend a good place to stay in the centre of KL, looking at spending around 40 Ringet per night for a double.
Also any must see attractions ?

Hi cautiousc,

Honestly, there's not much choice for 40 Ringgit per day in central KL. For 40 Ringgit, you can get a small lodge which i personally dont recommend. The cheapest i've came across is around 60-70 Ringgit in Bukit Bintang area (CBD of KL).

Good luck!

I think it'll be hard for you to get something on the 40 ringgit price up in KL... I usually stay at a place in bukit bintang, and the price is at least 100 ringgit for a proper place!

RM 40 per day will be hard to get and even if you get it it will be unsatisfactory. RM 60 above will get you something quite satisfactory and consider cheap.

Hi,
I agree with the others, you won't find rooms too cheap in KL. We were there during a holiday & boy did we have to pay! Off season I'm sure you can find something decent at a reasonable price. We stayed in the Chinatown area near the market. We stayed at the Tang City hotel on JL Sultan - nice, remodeled, paid 90 for a double, but then it was a holiday. We looked at the Hotel China Town Inn (listed in Lonely Planet) and it also looked good - they had rooms for 80-90. I'm sure if you look around you can find something for 60, but I don't think you'll find anything for 40.

KL is nice, but there isn't as much to do there as I thought there would be... Anyway, we visted the Lake Gardens - bird and butterfly parks, took long walks that included the National Mosque, old Sentral Station, Central Market. Tried to get up in the Petronas Towers but got to the ticket office too late - guess you need to queue up starting about 8am in order to nab the few free tickets they hand out each day. We were going to take in the Batu caves but ran out of time, so I don't know what they are like. The market in Chinatown is, well, like most Chinese markets, filled with cut tag clothes and little junky items that are fun to bargain for. The food in that area is no great shakes, so you may want to eat elsewhere - there are plenty of other areas to eat & that have great street food like the Golden Triangle area at night.

KL has great public transportation, so it's fun just taking the trains around as most are above ground.

Don't bother with a visit to the palace if you have limited time - you can't get in anyways. Hmm, what else... we went up in the Menara Tower at sunset - excellent views.

Have fun!
Martha

Take this with a grain of salt, as I've never been there, but I too am looking at places to stay in KL and using the Accomodation tool on TravellersPoint, I've found several places that are in your price range. As to location, or how nice they are, I have no idea.

I'm just suggesting you click on Accomodation to the right here and see if you find anything.

Best of luck!

FYI - be careful about the cheapies as they can be real dumpy. You may not want to stay in the red light district... you'll be able to tell when you are in it.
