Hey prob a silly question but what is the postal/ surface mail service like in SE Asia if you want to post stuff home?? I just dont fancy lugging things unnecessarily onto Australia if I dont have to but dont want to send it home if its not going to get there! any experiences?
Thanks in advance
I have sent and received parcels from Thailand, all successful. Slow, but they did arrive back in the US. I have sent and received letters from VN, slow again, but they did arrive. I would not send anything from Cambodia, very unreliable service. I would not trust Laos to send anything either. Malaysia has good mail service and would trust them to get your parcel to where it is going. Good Luck
We've sent things via local post in Hong Kong, Singapore and China with no problems. Though it appeared that the package from China had been "repackaged" if you know what I mean...
Thailand is very reliable and they offer three levels of service -- surface, surface/air and air. When you go to the post office, they usually give you the rates for each so you can decide how much you want to spend. Also, they have boxes at the post office as well as packing tape and string so all you have to do is take your stuff in and mail it. I also had success mailing from Vietnam, particularly in Hoi An. The process of mailing took a bit of time but everything arrived safely and the people in the post office were helpful and even suggested I make the package smaller so that it would cost me less.
Would agree about Cambodia and would probably add Laos to that list as well as I'm not sure about the quality of their service.
I posted cards from Lao to the UK & it took about a month, so it does work, you just need to be patient. Parcels I'm not so sure about.
