Quoting Taffski

Hi Guys,

We're going to be in Tristan De Cunha (not quite as remote as Bouvet) in April. You can get there a little bit easier than Bouvet though :)

As for the craziest place....
Try Cairo....
in Rush hour.....
in a Taxi....
Craaaazzzyyyyyyy !!! :)

Taffski

Taffski, how did you arrange your trip to Tristan Da Cunha? I just read a book about a dutch man who wanted to do some biological research over there, and it took him 2 years to arrange transport. I want to go there myself ...once..please tell me all about it.

Thanks, Michael

- Butan
- Vanuatu and surrounding islands
- Lesoto
- North Korea, sure,
- some others

And, of course, the country side of almost every country....

that is it.

Michael,

no problems.... tis on an old tall ship called Bark Europa which sails from Holland funnily enough!

They sail down to Antarctica over the winter months (Summer in the Southern Hemisphere) base at Ushuaia and then do 4 trips to Antarctica and then a final trip on the 28th of Feb. They sail from Ushuaia to Antarctica then instead of returning to Ushuaia, they sail North East to South Georgia, then Tristan, and then finally end up in Cape Town 53 days later!
It's one hell of a trip (however it's an expensive one !!!)

we're currently trying to barter with them and get the price down a bit (currently €5500....each.....ouch!!!!)

I can post the Web site if you're interested, have 2 months hoildays and have a hole to burn in your pocket :)

Really cool Taffski. So you are first flying down to Ushuaia or embark in Holland already?
Actually, it's not too expensive in my opion, although it's a lot of money of course. Time will be a bigger problem.
So, it's actually possible to get a lower price if you bargain?

Well, enjoy that fantastic trip, I think it will be some future trip for me.

Another off the beaten: White Russia or Belorussia. It is right in Europe, yet not many tourists go there as it is almost as closed up as North Korea. Central Asia is also a good bet, once you get out off the main roads/central railway lines connecting the bigger cities.

As a general rule: the harder it is to get a visa, the less people bother.

Iraq is quite different to anywhere else you can visit!

I heard Saudi Arabia has opened borders for the adventurous travellers, and you don't need to book a tour anymore, you can travel around yourself, except to mekka and medina.
Anyone has experience travelling here?

Dear Utrecht, Yeah, I heard that too (that it's opening for tourists - they probably see the amazing things going on next door in Dubai). I thought about it for a few seconds then it hit me - No beer, No wine, No Zoom. When they start brewing "Riyadh Lager" I'll be picking up my visa - lol. I know people that have been there but for work for a few months and high pay - same story from everyone (not many return visits), no need to repeat it here......

As far as Craziest Travel Destination - I'll go with "Las Vegas" So plastic it's scary. So artificial it's like eating a newspaper sandwich but people still love it (maybe that's why some people scare me). I never got the attraction, call me retarded. Zoom

yep, that's a major reason not to go...no beer and wine I mean. But surely, there must be some place or some way to get alcohol over there. I heard it's possible as well in Iran, but maybe S-A is even more strict. Don't know, but i will probably go there. It's one of those countries who needs to be discoverd...let's hope the Dubai disadvantages will not occur!;)
