Hi, I want to go to Italy with my friend, we are both 15 (girls) but might be 16 by the time we (hopefully) go to Italy by ourselves. I want to know if there are any restrictions for travelling and staying alone under 18 and if there are any safe, cheap places suitable in cities around Italy...Florence, Milan, Rome, whatever... Thanks

Don't know about restrictions on age. Best take a letter from your parents permitting you to travel and inquire beforehand in the hostel you intend to stay whether your age is a problem. Be aware that you need some personal ID if you want to go to Italy. That can be a personal ID card, a children's travel document or a passport. You might need both of your parents permission in writing to get one of those.

For cheap accomodation, check out accomodation on the left in the navigation bar of the page. Or go directly to www.hostelworld.com. You can use your mom's or your dad's credit card to reserve beds through the site. Another good site for italy is www.crosspollinate.com.

Be aware that you need to budget at least around 50 EUR per day and person. So if it is two of you for 2 weeks, you need 1400 EUR plus money for getting to Italy.

Have fun.

Oh yeah, before I forget it, please search this forum for Italy and read what has been written there. Then amanecer won't have to type out again everything xe wrote before.

Maia's right; but even wíth such letter, I doubt whether youth hostels are allowed to accept you as a guest. Italy has rather strict regulations, ensuring safe tourism... so best inquire beforehand.
