Hello everyone,
I accidentally stumbled across this site in my research, and I'm so glad I did!

I'm a youthful twenty years old, and from a smaller city called Kelowna, a few hours away from Vancouver. I'm planning a last minute trip to Asia. I've spent the past couple years working as a dive instructor onboard a cruise ship, and then the summers spent working for a teen training program on sailboats. After another salty summer in the British Virgin Islands I've decided that I needed a break from the Caribbean. So, with the money saved from the summer contract, I've decided to stretch it over 6 months through Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia.

I plan to be leaving end of September and don't really know the exact times, or order of where I plan to be going...I'm going solo so if anyone wants to meet up, I'd love to meet some of you!

Hi Sami(?),

A very good friend is moving this month from London to Kelowna (so I actually know where that is at). Kelowna sounds like it is good for biking; I'm hoping to get over there next year.

I can't help you with Asia but wish you a "schöne Reise".

Hi Samantha!!!

Welcome to TP??

How long have you been a dive instructor?? (I see you have been working as one for a couple of years.) Sadly, Beerman and I are only advanced openwater certified, but as they say - you're never too old. (Or is that, you can't teach an old dog new tricks...) We would love to relocate to the Caribbean and start a dive center but life as we know it at the moment isn't allowing us that priviledge. This too could change...

If you are looking for people to join you on your travels (and if you haven't already) consider posting in the Travel Companions Forum.

Have fun with the planning and enjoy the adventure! See you in the forums! ;)

Hahaha, if I make it that far down south, I shall drop you a message Jennifer!

Anyways, to Isadora, I've been a dive instructor for two years now. I've worked mostly down in the British Virgin Islands and throughout the Caribbean on a cruiseline. I'm excited to head out into Asia and sneak some diving into the Gulf of Thailand!

And no.. you're never too old to do more diving and get higher certs. I've worked with openwaters over the age of 50, crinkly seniors getting a second kick out of life. It's a l ittle scary from the heart problem standpoint, buuut if the doctor says it's okay, then we go for it!

Hi Samileigh, and welcome to TP.

Been diving both in the Gulf of Thailand and the Indian Ocean on the other side of the peninsula - I highly recommend it.

Have fun!

Michael

Well, enjoy the diving around Thailand! Let us know how it goes!!!

I did my original training 21 years ago, but didn't go for Advanced until after Kris (Beerman) had done his cert training 6 years ago. And, I understand the "doctor's note" thing. Once I passed the age of 45, I started being asked for a health letter. Now, I just get one routinely every 6 months so I have it on hand. (No heart problems but DMs like seeing that in writing! And, hopefully, I'm not to crinkly yet...) ;)
