Really sad news. When I heard it I was really in shock. Did like his documentaries and all. I hope his family and his zoo will be in good hands! Rest in peace mate/bloke.

Yeah, crikey...

He was done by a stingray out of all creatures?? I honestly thought if something like this was going to happen to him it would have been a croc. But a stingray?? Crikey!!

Also, for some unknown reason he was well loved round the world, but a lot of aussies never seemed to care too much about him. Shame really, because he was a great ambassador to this country, as someone in a previous post mentioned already.

This is such sad news, he was such a top bloke.
Saw the whole family at the Zoo this year and they were lovely.
My thoughts are with his family at this devestating time

This is very sad news and my condolences go to his wife and kids. There can't be any consolation for such a tragic accident but at least he died doing what he loved doing best and people around the world will never forget about the famous Australian crocodile hunter.

Very sad news ... and not just for the people of Australia, but the whole world. He was definitely a character. I visited Australia Zoo not that long ago ... he wasn't there, but you could definitely tell he poured his heart and soul into the place. My deepest condolences to his family.

R.I.P, Steve.

I've only ever been peripherally aware of Steve; and now I never shall have the pleasure of being more than that. :(

At least I think it's safe to say that he has always lived life fully.

I had the pleasure of meeting him in 2003 when I went to Australia Zoo. He was such an infectuous character, who cared passionately about wildlife, not just in his beloved Australia, but all over the world.

Meeting him was one of, if not THE, highlight of my 7 months in Australia.

My heart goes out to Terri, Bindi, Bob, Steve's father, and all those that lived or worked with The Crocodile Hunter. They can take comfort in the knowledge that he died doing what he loved to do. How mny of us get to live the dream? He was a special person, who made a huge difference.

Rest In Peace Steve
