Agree with Flo Jo - it depends on what you are after.

For absolute scenic beauty - Cape Town, Cosmopolitan-ness - New York, Culture - Paris / Rome / London...

the world is wonderful and there are many places that need to be taken on their own merit to be appreciated.

I'd have to sy Dubrovnik, Croatia. Its like something out of a fairy tale.

Actually, Dubrovnik was a Serbian city until the Holocaust, when in the Jasenovac concentration camps between 1941 and 1944 Croatian Nazi puppet state murdered 750,000 Serbs, including those from Dubrovnik.

A Croatian movie director Zafranovic made a movie about the extermination of Dubrovnik Serbs called "Occupation in 26 Tableaux" in the 1970s.

Chicago. I know most people wouldn't ever pick this city, but I know it really well (its my hometown), and the beauty and diversity of this town, year-round, is awesome. Come here in the summer especially and visit Wrigleyville, Greektown, and the lake areas.

New Orleans gets second place, because I am obsessed with that city. Actually, Chicago and New Orleans have kindof a bond, becaues whenever i'm down there and say I am from Chicago, people will respond with questions like, do you know this artist or have you been to this place or the festival? new orleans is the jazz city, chicago is the blues city.

internationally, so far, from what i've seen, athens and istanbul are unbelievable; so are most cities i've visited, but i definitely wanted to move to either athens or istanbul after spending time in each, where everywhere else i'm happy just to take pictures.

luang prabang in laos is beautiful but slightly lacking modern conveniences.

krakow, poland is stunning and has stuff to do at night ie restaurants, bars, clubs etc.

barcelona would be a cool city to live in for a while. as would berlin... berlin was really fun!

personally i would like to live in phnom penh for a while and then maybe ho chi minh?? both cities are undeniably dynamic and almost constantly buzzing with energy. i had some amazing nights out in both cities and also foud loads of beautiful places to sit and comtemplate.

i should think from what i have heard and seen that rio de janeiro would be the ultimate place to live. it looks awesome and i cant wait to go there!

Based on my travel experiences, I believe many of you are focusing on rather large cities and neglecting some of the most beautiful towns in Europe.

1)Strassbourg in France is one of my favorite. Great atmosphere for young and old and the town itself is filled with historical sites and some unique architecture.

2)Lucerne in Switzerland is by far the neates town I have ever visited. It is located on the Lake Lucerne with mountains surrounding it from all sides. The night life is relatively laid back due to its size, but you will find plenty of local bars, pubs, lakeside cafes, and some real hip clubs. Also, as in every Swiss town, the old part of the city is breathtaking and you have the option of walking on the city walls, which were established in the 12th century and still standing (and don't forget the wooden bridge).

If you ever drive through Switzerland, be sure to visit Lucerne for at least two days and try to complement your stay in Lucerne with a visit to Locarno, another small town in the italien part of Switzerland.

3)Krakow in Poland. It's simply a must!

In Europe I like Stockholm and Brugge. Also Galway in Ireland is nice.

In Asia I like the smaller traditional cities like the old quarters of Hanoi.

I'm not even sure whether I think it's beautiful or strong and amazing but city of all cities in my opinion is New York. Stunning. I didn't expect to love it so much!
