What are the current security regulations?
I am flying to Marsaille, in a couple of weeks, from Germany. Will i be allowed to bring books, a bag, and a bottle of water on the plane?

Quoting Mel.

Will i be allowed to bring books, a bag, and a bottle of water on the plane?

Yes, yes (assuming it's a small bag; look at your airline's website for the exact dimensions), no (no liquids of any kind allowed, including gels).

Hello Sander
I mean, with the new terrorist threats and all the new restrictions. On some flights people have been banned from taking anything at all on the plane. No books, no snacks, not bags.

Yeah, most of those insane restrictions have been lifted (there's no way they could keep that up with business travellers). The only thing that remains is the silly "no liquids" rule, and the allowance for hand luggage is much smaller now than it used to be.

Restrictions at the moment do allow for hand luggage to be carried on board.
But be warned the size has been halved.
Two item NOT allowed are liquids of any type (toothpaste, soap, gels, drinks, deoderants), and remote controls (car key fobs). Plus the usual sharp objects.
Some airlines allow you to buy and take on liquids from the security side of the airport.
Check with your airline for their stance on it.
But books, laptops MP3 players are not a problem at the moment.
Have a good flight

Hello Sander
No liquids is bad enough. But i suppose i will survived that, on the flight to Marsaille, from Germany. But, does that also apply to flights to Asia? I will be travelling to Thailand in November, with a 5 year old child. The no liquids would be a pain. They never give enough drinks, on flights.

Thanks for the information Jase.
Those restrictions sure are a nuisance. I hope things change soon.

I presume i can put liquids in the checked in luggage?

Checked in luggage: yes.
Not enough to drink: I'd _hope_ the airlines have adjusted and are coming by much more frequently now, and are especially helpful around children. I haven't flown myself recently, so I don't know. If they're not, you're fully justified in causing a big stink, I'd say. (But yes, it applies to all flights worldwide, as far as I know. (Might be mistaken there; check with your airline if you want to be certain.))
