Would appreciate any help and advice, I'm just planning my RTW. I'm stuck on south America, I'm pretty flexible at the moment but was wandering if it was possible to get from Santiago to Mexico? How long it would take?
I want to see the Amazon and the incas?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in Advance
An enjoyable amount of time would be around 4 months, a little over 2 months in south america and a little under in central america. You need to fly to Panama, because crossing the darian gap by land is not recommended (very dangerous with drug related activities).
A possible route could be:
Santiago-Mendoza (argentina)- Salta, then into Bolivia and towards Cuzco, then flying to Iquitos en by river towards Manaus and upwards toward Caracas and flying out of here to Panama.
Or go up north Chile, crossing to Peru and then back into Bolivia and visit the Bolivian jungle, cross overland to Brazil and towards Caracas. More adventurous amazone part that will be.
Or skip the brazilian part and go to the amazone basin in Peru and or Ecuador and fly out of Guayaguil or Quito to Panama or Costa Rica.
The darian gap is not very safe but alternatively to flying you could head into colombia and cross by boat from cartagena to panama. its a 5 day trip visiting islands and coralreefs on the way.
Your help is much appreciated.
