Hi there, I need to know what the best bus company is in peru. I will be travelling from cuzco down to lake titicaca and over to arequipa thtn to nazca to pisco and then back to lima. I would like to get a ticket that will cover all these areas but i am abit worried about the mode of transport. Can someone help me. Cheers
Buy separate tickets for each stretch of the way; that's easiest and cheapest. Most Peruvian bus companies provide good service; I find it hard to recommend one in particular, better let it depend on their fares.
I used Cruz del Sur to get around Peru quite a lot. They are definitely one of the "better" ones, but dont be fooled by the pictures on the brochures or website. As long as you know not to expect any frills its fine!
There are three types of fares depending on what level of comfort you want, but it's a good idea to go for at least the semi-cama.
I used Ormeno to travel from Cuzco to Puno (Lake Titicaca) - also pretty good.
As far as I know, you cant get a compound ticket and you need to get individual ones. Also, its a good idea to reserve your tickets a day in advance, and turn up an hr before at the station to make sure they have your reservation.
I found these links useful
Have a great time in Peru!
I always think peru is a far far place when I was a little boy.
I will be in Peru in March 07. I am also considering taking busses. Can someone give me their experiences? Was the travel time too long compared to flying? + its much cheaper! It seems like a great way to see the country. I would go from Lima to Lake Titicaca, to Cusco and back.
Dont forget to check out the small isle near Pisco. U can see pinguins, loads of birds and sealions and if ur lucky dolphins. Ofcourse dont forget to try Pisco sour itself...
Also from Nasca share a cab to go to the dunes. ( i forgot the name, maybe someone remembers)You stay there in the middle of an oasis. You defninatley should go for sandboarding and the buggyride there! Really cool!!!
Sorry, i have to correct myself. I just read somewhere(now plagiarism occurs )that you travel from Ica, so not from Nasca, and that the oasis is called Huacachina.
