I am just wondering which is the best hostel in cairns. there is so many and im not sure which one to stay at! any recomendations? i want something clean and decent priced for about a month. and hoepfully somewhere close to town and such. Thank you!!
Hey Erin, I didnt actually stay there, but know a lot of people went to Gilligans which although more pricey than most of the hostels its probably the best value for money as its v hotel like, exceptionally clean, own bathrooms, tv lounge on each floor etc etc and is close to everywhere. I was in the International which is okay price wise but not amazing hostel - only good thing about it was right opposite the lagoon. Caravellas seemed better and thats across from the lagoon as well and you get free meal ticket for the Woolshed.
I was in Cairns a couple of weeks ago and stayed at Gilligans - which although very nice and as mentioned above 'hotel-like', unfortunately my room was right above the bar and as such was exceptionally noisy at night and into the wee small hours!
Apart from that, a very nice hostel which offers a weekly rate that brings the price down to $23 a night for a 6-bed dorm.
Also, I had a friend who stayed at Global Palace and she loved it there.
Hope that helps,
I stayed at the Nomads Serpent Hostel and it was excellent
