Once you start searching people without reason, you've turned into - at the very least - a socialist state.

Socialism has nothing to do with this.

Sorry T, Mikey's right........to me, it's fascism.

And yes, apparently we have to alter the blood of history so that people aren't shocked and, and.......wait a minute.......are you telling me that television sanitizes violence to make it seem somehow more acceptable? I'm appalled. But yes, people need to see that violence is messy and painful. Either show it completely or not at all.

see the sky, I agree with you on a lot of the things you said.

Mass murder and devastation occurs on an equal if not greater scale everyday in many countries accross the world. all disaster should be mourned, none more than others.

I have great sympathy and respect for the families of people that lost friends and relatives on september 11th as I do for those that lose friends and relatives accross the world each day from war and famine and devastation.

I did not read every post in this thread. I was disgusted after the first few from the original poster.

How can you ever forget what happened on 9/11? How can things ever "fall back into place"? Our lives and the country itself was changed on that day and things from that day on will never be the same.

It amazes me how people seem to so eaisly forget what happened. How a person can compare what happened on 9/11 to peopel dieing from eatign at McDonalds???? I jsut don't get it.

I don't think Brendan was suggesting that we forget about September 11th. My interpretation of what Brendan was saying is that there are other important issues to which we should be paying as much attention.

*warning status quo in question*

Is "Happy September 11th" the proper term? It seems to be on everyone's lips, I am sure Hallmark is going to be rolling out the cards. So I thought I would wish you all a Happy September 11th.

Remember, remember the eleventh of September.
Conspiracy Treason and Plot.
I see no reason why such Conspiracy Treason
should ever be forgot...

You are a definite worry, Brendan.

Your last few posts have -

accused perfidious Albion of concocting a feindish plot to take the world's eyes off the recent war in Lebanon by arresting moslem men and charging them with attempting to blow up planes on their way from Heathrow to the US

accused democratic leaders of using Fear to control their citizens

accused democratic leaders of defining a new (imagined?) enemy simply to rally the plebs around the flag

described Airport security as power mongering

justified radioactive motive for islamic terrorism (Saudi mutawa are certainly mutants)

We all enjoy the odd conspiracy theory, so here is my one -

I reckon you're one of them thar Taliban or Al Cruda, probably stuck in some cave with a wireless laptop just outside Spin Boldak, and a prime example of the dangers of sniffing gun oil in enclosed spaces.

Either that or you could just have a kanger loose in the top paddock.

Sorry T, Mikey's right........to me, it's fascism.

I was trying not to say the "F" word... whatever it is, it can't be called a Democracy anymore.

And I get B's point - there are people dying all over the world, and yet all this focus is on something that happened years ago. It's not that we shouldn't remember or that the pain isn't valid, but it's very one-track-minded. As many chidren die in Africa every day as died in the WTC bombings - and these kids are dying of preventable diseaases. We KNOW how to cure them, there's just no money to do it. Why can the media focus so entirely on the WTC memorials and yet devote nothing to remmber the people who are dying today - deaths we can do something about?

That's a bloody good question. I think it says something about human nature.

I must say this is all really good stuff - everyone that has contributed has made excellent points and counter-points.

I wouldn't label unwarranted searches only in the relm of fascism, all governments use tactics such as these. When power is facing a threat it backs into a corner and will use any means to defend itself. As Beerman says, if people knew half of the stuff governments keep secret their would be a mass exodus of civilization, or at least their should be (There probably wouldn't, everyone would just head to Wal-Mart unabated).

jasno999, what I don't get is how all you can say is that you feel disgusted. Elaborate if you please? I can easily compare the attacks on the Twin Towers, the Menu of McDonalds, the secret Eastern European prisons of the CIA, and any other number of heinous acts.

How do they all compare you ask? Good question, thanks for asking. They compare because it is about control, power, fear, and greed. To all in power the means DO justify the ends. Charlie Bell is concerned with two things (as far as McDonald's is concerned): with his car collection, and the pockets of share holders. By any means necessary profit will be had, if that means subjecting millions of children to food with no nutritional value at all, so be it.

The CIA's power is based on information and fear, how do they get that information? Through torture (well documented at that). They set up secret prisons and make, by any means necessary, people say what they want to hear. Water-Boarding is one such tactic: The subject is placed on an inclined board, their feet above the level of their head. Plastic-wrap is put over their mouth & nose then water is poured over their face to simulate drowning. Rinse and repeat.

The attack on the Twin Towers is not so black and white, but regardless of the reasons and methods of attack - it has been used to release unto the world relentless war. A war that will never stop.

So jasno999, if you feel I am wrong, let's talk about it, and I also suggest you read what EVERYONE has to say.

wotthefiqh, I can assure you I am not a Terroristâ„¢. Haha! But I do think you listed my opinions nicely, thank you. Don't worry I won't proclaim Jihad or Crusade upon you.

Terrorism has killed approx 20,000 over the last ten years (just a guess, but it can't be too far off).
How many die from car crashes, cancer from smoking, alcohol, bee stings?.
So in the end as a killer it's still a relatively small danger, if the publicity wasn't there from the media it would reduce greatly. CNN, Sky and the likes with news broadcast instantly are one of the main causes for the dramatic increase in the scale of terror acts.
Blame a religion? yes and no, as it's not the cause, but they do seem to attract people with a biggited approach.
They also give those looking for an excuse to moan how they are percecuted, (Christians, Jews, Muslum included). Just like every superpower needs an enemy, it seems that people are using a similar excuse every religion seems to also needs it's own enemy.
11/09/01 should not be forgotten by those affected, just like D-Day, will never be forgotten by those countries affected.
