Travelling across US

Travel Forums North America Travelling across US

Hi all i am visiting the US with 2 friends in February, we have 6 weeks to travel from LA to NY and would like to see as much as possible along the way. I realise this is not a great amount of time to be travelling such a distance, and feel it is important to organize our trip early on!

Any help with places worth visiting and also best forms of travel ideally a mixture of a road trip and flights, much appreciated.

Thanks

:)

Brendan,
This is a difficult task you have given the TP members. I can see why nobody tried to help. I will get some details and try to answer you in a PM.

Same answer...get a couple or routes mapped out and then we can help from there. Or, tell us what you are interested in seeing/doing (outdoors, night life, tourist hot spots, western stuff, history) and we can help with suggestions. - Rebecca

As to travel, your choices are bicycle, automobile, train, and bus. Of these the last three might be feasible for your time and distance. Pricing (and in the case of trains, possible destinations) will probably decide this for you.

Los Angeles to New York offers you some nice if difficult choices. But you need to think about what is important to you. Have you ever seen any of the great parks and natural areas of the southwest (your first stop could be Joshua Tree)? Are you interested in a rural experience or the big cities?

And last, weather could play a decisive role here. In February it is possible that bad weather could stop your travel for a couple days and make it more difficult; this would be a reason to choose a more southerly route (possibly leave New York and the north-east out entirely for this trip). There is more than enough to see long a southerly route. You mention flights. If you must end up in New York, you could do a road trip as far as it takes you and then fly from that point to NYC.
