A good friend that's moved away sent me that customizable "Elf Yourself" (via the website JibJab) video... I don't know if anyone here has heard of it, but it can certainly cheer someone up!

Having a working snow blower again so I didn't have to clear the driveway with a shovel. Even better, the push button start works though it sounds like a jet engine taking off when I start it up.

I got some really cute new boots! Gotta have something to cheer me in the face of all the "upcoming" snow.

Oh, that happened to my friend's baby too. She kept losing weight and her mother was frantic.

She's 4 now and very, very healthy. So happy to hear your news!

I was having coffee in the sunshine today, when I should have been at work .
I emphasize on sunshine. It's December in Berlin and usually days are grey and dull.

Hearing the Salvation Army Brass Band playing Christmas carols in the street today- I couldn't help but smile. So lovely and Christmassy!

Nik - ignore the horror stories - everyone has one and can't wait to share.

Babies routinely lose weight after birth. Obviously your nephew lost a bit more than the acceptable maximum (10% of their original birth weight). But, given he was healthy at delivery, has lost the weight over a 2+ week period and has now gained an ounce - things sound good. (I giggled when I saw the 35 ounces - thinking "That little guy is a porker by now gaining 2+ pounds in a few days!" I figured you meant grams.) It's still a scary situation but babies are resilient little creatures. I'm happy to read he has turned a corner and I'm sure all will be fine.

All my years in Neonatology taught me that babies want to stick around for awhile and will fight to do so. Little do they know it's all down hill from here. (Don't tell him that - let him find out for himself.)

Back in April we received a class action notice about faulty head gaskets in certain Neons. Not thinking we would qualify, I sent everything in basically on a lark anyway. All it cost was the price of the stamp. The case went to court in August and yesterday we received a settlement check. It was a nice little surprise Christmas gift from Chrysler.
