I was on the train going to work, and the train wasn't too crowded. Anyway, the guys sitting opposite me is asleep, and across the floor of the train walks this friggin' Huntsman spider!!!

The bastard was huge, was about half the size of my hand, and it walks across the floor of the train, crawls onto the sleeping guy's briefcase, then onto his leg and into his suit jacket!!!

By this point, I was pissing myself laughing (at the same time as wondering how the spider got on the train), and I had to get up and sit elsewhere!!!

Everything must have turned out okay as the sleeping guy was on the train again this morning - fast asleep (maybe he was dead!!!)

Actually, they are harmless. But I've had one crawl across the outside of my windscreen whilst driving and I nearly had a passed out.

Thanks James - thats all l can say but THANKS - l have been sucessfully putting Huntsmen outta my mind before my trip and you go and bring them up again! Great!

I have SUCH a phobia of spiders (in so much as the ones here in N Ireland have held me hostage downstairs whilst it chilled out on my stairs so that l couldnt pass!) - if l run into one of these mother fu**kers l will FREAK and l mean FREAK!

The thought of CC and Purdy both cowering behind anything possible to avoid spiders. (No, I'm not making fun of the two of you!!! I feel the same way about leaches.) But I have seen CC's response to a spider the size of a microdot crawling down a building wall next to my shoulder. I thought she was going to stroke out on the spot.

(Sorry, I think the huntman is quite a pretty spider, but then, I really like spiders. The black and yellow garden spiders (argiopes) are my favorites.)

No worries, Heather and Brendan! I've been living and travelling in Australia for almost a year now and have neither run into any nasty spiders nor lost an eye ;).
Oh and btw, seeing Pearl Jam in concert made me smile today.

This is why I like cold climates, where spiders only reach a respectable size. (Although on the West Coast they get too large for my taste).

That is good to hear Steff, but still I'll save Australia for some other life when I don't reel in terror.

In related news I read a few years ago the top 3 things people in the U.K. are afraid of:

1.) Spiders
2.) Terrorists

Can't remember the third.
