What places and sightseeing do you recommend in San Francisco? Cultural places, architectural highlights, restaurants worth a visit etc. Anything that is typical for San Francisco!

Thanks,

  • Go to China Town-the largest china town in the world outside of china

  • Check out Golden Gate Park, there are several great museums there.

  • If you like science museums check out the exploratorium

  • Go to Pier 39 and look at the Sea Lions

  • Eat clam chowder from a bowl made of sour dough french bread at Fisherman's Warf

  • Eat alot of sour dough bread! It comes from SF, it has a very unique flavor. You wont get a chance to eat it again

  • Go up to the top of the Hyatt after 5pm for a drink the Equinox Room. It is one of those revolving restaurants. The view from there is amazing!

Make sure to ride the cablecars, not merely for the fun and color of it, but as a good way to get from one part of the city to another. Additionally, one of the best views of San Francisco is from Alcatraz Island which also happens to be the site of a very interesting tour. The restaurants are almost uniformly good as are many of the small hotels. Leave time to walk. San Francisco is a walking city.
Enjoy your trip.

I live in San Francisco and made a 7-day itinerary of all my favorite locations, dining, and sightseeing places in the city (with descriptions and some transportation info) for when friends and family come visit me, you can view it here: http://triptie.com/plan/14/suave-san-francisco. Normally, my friends just pick their favorite locations, restaurants or days from the itinerary and it's a huge help.
