I'm going to be in Thailand late Dec - late Jan, and I want to book at least a week's stay in a decent hotel for the Full Moon Parties and NYE.
I was initially going to stay on Joh Samui and just get the boat over to Koh Phangan, but Ive heard from several people that Samui is not all that nice? Apparantly its become very westernised now, with fast food restaurants everywhere? Is this correct?
Alternatively we could stay for the whole time on Koh Phangan, which Ive heard is much more un-spoilt?
Dont go to samui - we stayed in Cheweng beach and it is HORRENDOUS - booming music, not an inch of unspoilt beach, sunburnt bellies everywhere, all lewd crude and pretty vulgar. Apparently the rest of samui is beautiful but we wernt hanning around. Stay in the Beach resort in Tong nai Pan Noi - absolutly stunning - parties if you want parties but you wouldnt even notice them going on if you want peace and quiet. Magical place. Over the bay is Tong nai Pan Noi - gorgeous too and bottle beach. Bout half an hour in truck to half moon - 40 to full moon
Personally I think that the only good thing about Koh Samui is cheap beer!! I would also recommend Koh Phangan. We stayed on the north of the island which is much quieter, more beautiful and realxing. You will have no problems getting transport down to Full Moon. I wouldn't stay in Hat Rin (where Full Moon is held) as it is very western and unless you want to feel like you are on an 18-30's holiday I'd pick somewhere else.
Hope this helps!
I think u heard right. Koh Samui has been a bit over touristed. Either stay on the quieter parts of the island, or spend most of your island time on Koh Phangan.
between the two Phanggan wins hands down, but it's catching up to samui.
