Sally,

There are several different Grand Avenues around Queens.. Do you know what township you are looking at? Also, there isn't a 1st avenue in Queens... (I'm not an expert on Queens, but I did just look at a map) It seems to go to tenth avenue and after that it's water... If you give me actual addresses though I can tell you where they are and how far apart they are.

Mespath Queens is about 5 miles from Manhattan... If you are driving you can take highway 495 to the Midtown Tunnel and be there in about 5 or 10 minutes.. (depending on traffic). I'll take a look at train schedules around there and see how to do it via public transport.

Taking the Subway you will most likely be riding the M or L train into the city. It looks like both will be a bit of a hike from Grand Street, but they are the closest to where you are staying... Not counting the walking time, you're probably looking at a 15-20 minute or so train ride into Manhattan from there.

Thanks Ian for looking that up.
Well to be honest I was offered a place to stay there by someone I know
and they are being very kind so I might consider it for a few days,Id be rude not to.Im guessing its going to be quite an akward route to Manhattan then.I dont mind walking its just it dosent exactly excite me spending half hour on a train.Sorry last q! how many miles are you looking at from Manhattan then?

It's about 5 miles. from Mespath to Manhattan.

I was guessing that you were staying with family over there... That area has a lot of Irish immigrants(including my family)... My father grew up about 3 miles from where you are staying.
