I am in the early stages of planning a trip to Oz possibly Sydney areas such as Glebe or Bondi at the end of Feb/ beginning of March for a working holiday- unfortunately i can't afford to be leisurely all the time! I would love to hear from anyone thinking of doing something similar or has done already for some friendly advice. I am travelling on my lonesome so anybody who is in the same boat leave me a message! xx
Hey hun im hoping to go march time too but with ozintro.com have you heard of them? im gonna be on my lonesome too so im trying out them as im shit scared doing it totally alone!! lol but hey if your there at the same time as me maybe we could meet up for a drink =D good luck xX
Hello- at last a reply from someone that doesnt seem odd! I have looked into ozintro but im undecided on how to go about it all. are you planning on working when you get to Oz? i just want to do different things-maybe learn to surf which would be fun! xx
Hey! yeah for the first 3-6 months ill be working not sure how long yet im abit weary sorting things out with work etc on my own so thats why ive gone with ozintro they seem the cheapest around for what im after! yeah learning to surf is in the package also i cant wait =D i wanna do loads of stuff like bungee/parachute jumping and any other crazy things!! you should get a pack from ozintro it gives you lots of info to help you along xxx
I found Glebe to be a good place to be based when I was in Sydney during my working holiday. It's a great suburb, and not too far from the city (is easily walkable, and there are also plenty of buses that go to the city!). I stayed at the Glebe Point YHA, which often does weekly rates for working holidaymakers (not sure when they start up again after the new year though).
Travellers Contact Point is also something to look into if going on a WHM visa. They have job & accommodation boards, as well as a travel shop. They also do mail holding & forwarding, which can be very useful.
Staying in youth hostels in Sydney, in particular the 2 main ones in Glebe but also elsewhere, you will meet people without problems.
March is a good time to go as Dec-end Jan can be tricky finding work seeing as theres 80,000 backpackers there looking too.
Also its not too cold either. Work till June and fly up the coast
Im planning on doing the whole working holiday thing at the beginning of Feb. Will be in Sydney (Bondi area) for the first couple months and then do some travelling. I'm also travelling alone so I'm definately in the same boat as you
