We have surfed all sites with hotel reviews. We are now very confused. We narrowed our choices to 2 in Cairo and 2 in Luxor West Bank. The challenged we are faced with is the conflicting reviews we have with these hotels. We have for instant excellent reviews followed by the "most terrible hotel", "the plumbing doesn't work" "dirty". Please, give us your evaluation of these establishments ONLY if you stayed there yourself.
Cairo: Hotel Longchamps and Victoria Hotel
Luxor West Bank: Saint Josehp Hotel and Tutotel Hotel
Thanks for your input.
I haven't stayed at the hotels, but knowing Egypt and other ME countries, you probably have run across a common problem:
People booked with agencies pay a lot of money for their trip and of course expect exellent service. In a lot of places this is not up to the standards the tourists expect according to the price they were quoted by their (foreign) travel agent. The service is exactly the way the waiter always does it, because he gets the same pay.
However if you yourself check into a hotel and pay 15 USD for two people including breakfast, you sort of expect a dump. Yet you are pleasantly surprised when the room has aircon, a private bath, no creepy-crawlies and maybe a swimming pool for you to use. Then the less than great service doesn't bother you as much.
I hope you can see now why the reviews are see-sawing. Lower your expectations, check the hotel out when you arrive and if you don't like it move down the road to the next. Egypt is full of cheap hotels, unless you arrive on or near a big holiday you won't have any trouble finding a place. Bargaining is also an option.
Thank you for the information.
Has anyone email addresses for Saint Joseph Hotel in East Luxor?
I am also interested in the Pola or Polar hotel. Anyone with contacts for this hotel?
I appreciate all the info. Thanks
