Just in case for those of you travelling to Hatyai. Well, you would have heard of the bomb blast in the tourist belt of Hatyai on Saturday (Sept 17) that killed 5 people. The Malaysian Govt has issued advisory on this to Malaysians visiting Hatyai. So if you are planning to spend some time in Hatyai, best to give it a skip.
But it should be okay if you are planning to pass through Hatyai (transit) to get to the Malaysian border (and vice versa).
Just avoid putting up in Hatyai for the moment - to be on the safe side.
I will be taking a bus from KL to Hatyai enroute to BKK (Sept 20), and am making an overnight stopover in Suratthani.
It's so sad about the bombings in Hat Yai. Several people, including a Canadian man who was teaching at a local school, were killed. I shudder to think of the violence spreading further, possibly to better known tourist spots such as Phuket and Bangkok. I hope the Thai government can take action and contain this violence but they appear to be clueless about what to do, based on their inactions these past two years. Nevertheless, these latest Hat Yai bombings are too close for comfort; I once stayed a few nights at the Lee Gardens Hotel, which was one of the places that had a bomb.
I used to hang out at Deep Wonder, now I wonder whether dropping by Post for "live band" band will be safe!
